Life, Death, and Hospice Life, Death, and Hospice

Jon Katz of West Hebron has established a Hospice Journal feature to document his wonderful work with his two amazing dogs Izzy and Lenore, as a hospice volunteer for Washington County Public Health and Hospice. Katz presents a moving, inspiring chronicle of people at the edge of life, celebrating life, and honoring death.

Related to this, I highly recommend the new documentary film, Young at Heart, about the wonderful Young at Heart Chorus of Northampton, MA. The members of this chorus are in their 70s, 80s, and 90s. They really pack a wallup: when I saw this movie, there wasn't a dry eye in the theater when the chorus sang Bob Dylan's song "Forever Young." The film deals with life and death --- and how to make the most of life until the very end.

Forever Young
Bob Dylan
May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
